Goodrich designed and built the World's first infrared sensor for
spacecraft orientation in the late 1950's and has been delivering
high quality infrared equipment to NASA, the U. S. Government and
major spacecraft prime manufacturers ever since.
Throughout the years, Goodrich has continuously improved its
products and has participated successfully in many high profile
missions. Operational on over 700 spacecraft programs, Goodrich
sensors continue to operate well beyond their expected life.

Multi-Mission Earth Horizon Sensor
The Multi-Mission Earth Horizon Sensor (MMS), Model 13-410, is
the latest generation static earth sensor to have been developed
by Goodrich. The MMS provides the reliability and radiation
hardness of our "classic" static sensors with the added features
of very high accuracy and large acquisition and operating range.
The MMS was made possible by a breakthrough in micro-machining
technology whereby custom arrays containing thousands of tiny
thermopile detectors are used to accurately image the edge of the
Earths horizon. This enabling technology has been integrated
into the MMS, extending the capabilities of traditional earth
sensor systems to meet the increasingly stringent requirements of
military and commercial satellite programs. The MMS has been
chosen to provide primary attitude determination for the U.S. Air
Force Advanced Extreme High Frequency Program satellites.

Miniature Static Earth Horizon Sensors
With the advent of satellite constellations in the mid-1990s,
Goodrich responded to the aerospace industry message of "Better,
Quicker, Cheaper" with a revolutionary new product called the
Miniature Static Earth Sensor (Mini Static). Three generations
of this product were successfully developed and produced for
ORBCOMM, IRIDIUM and GLOBALSTAR constellations, among others, and
are performing on-orbit aboard over 200 satellites.
